Kuta is a great place to take surfing ðââïļ lessons. The beach is full of small businesses offering surfing lessons and hiring surf boards. So we thought we’d give it a go.
For only around $10, you get an hour lesson, and then you can use the surfboard for another hour. As someone who’s never done any surfing before, the idea was both daunting and exciting. After a quick demo on the beach, we were off into the Indian Ocean to ride the waves ðð well, maybe attempt to ride the waves ðĪ·ðŧââïļðĪĶðŧââïļ. We pushed the surfboard out over the incoming waves until the water was waist high and the plan was to lay on the board when the instructor said and then hop up onto the board in a 2 step process (back foot first then front foot) when the instructor said, easy right! Step 1 was easy, just lay on the board while the instructor keeps hold of it, when a wave ð comes up the instructor lets go and I’m moving with the wave, now stand up yells the instructor, next thing I remember is falling flat on my face into the sea , and then coughing up sea water, and that annoying feeling when it gets up your nose. But persistence is the key, so I went back out and tried again. The 1st 5 times I was falling off the board from different angles with the surfboard strapped to my leg. Around about the 6th time, something Amazing happened, and I managed to ride the wave all the way to the beach ðââïļð. I was Super excited, I thought I’d mastered it, went back out with a bit more confidence, but then splash ðĶðĶI was rolling around under water again ðĪĶðŧââïļ. Within the hour, I managed to get 4 or 5 good attempts and the feeling was Awesome.
After the lesson, I probably spent another 2 hours trying with similar levels of success until my energy levels had dropped off, and it was time to stop.
