Snorkeling at The Basin, Rottnest Island 🏝, Western Australia

Just a short 400 meter walk from the Campsite is The Basin Beach, which has some underwater reefs, so it was an ideal spot to go for a Snorkel 🀿.

Whilst on the Island, I Snorkelled here quite often as it was on the doorstep. It’s also a nice place to catch the sunset πŸŒ‡.

It’s called the basin because as you get into the sea from the beach, the seabed is a slab of rock, and the water is only ancle high depending on the time of day, a meter or so in there is a big drop-off and the water is now sometimes waist high other times all the way up to the neck.

It’s a great place to cool off from the heat, there is lots of seagrass on the surface, and some pretty good Coral and Marine life. The snorkelling isn’t something to write home about, but there are some much better snorkelling spots on the Island, stay tuned for future posts πŸ˜‰.

The good thing about The Basin is that it has easy access to facilities, there are plenty of benches, changing rooms, toilets, there’s an ice cream van that sells vegan ice-cream πŸ˜€, and it’s not far from the main shopping centre, but because of this it does get very busy πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ
